Survey Sez...

Ok, I need some help here, folks. Any insights would be useful.

Does anybody out there have a "coach"? As distinguished from a "therapist" or a shrink? If so, does anybody discuss disability issues with their coach?

Does anybody know a coach that understands disability issues?

My perception is that coaching is a rising phenomenon, and that it does serve a legitmate niche. My further perception is that most "life coaches" need to have some expertise in disability issues because they've gotta be serving the Boomers, and Boomers are about to be (if they aren't already) hip deep in disability/crip issues.

Anybody?

I have a friend who is a life coach, and also has a disability herself - she is over here in Australia though, and you probably want someone in the States? Here's her webpage, if you email her she may have contacts in your neck of the woods - you never know!

Also another friend who is also a life coach and has worked with pwd - an American living here in Aus as well, but I think she may do some life coaching via email - not sure, but she may also have some contacts in the States too. w/page

I think there are a lot of coaches out there who are probably familiar with disability issues. However, it may be a challenge finding someone who is qualified and experienced.

I would probably go outside the coaching arena and look at rehabilitation counselors or rehab psychologists who SHOULD be well trained and experienced with the issues.

As far as I can tell, life coaches are more frequently PhD's in Organizational Psychology. However, my dissertation in that field was on disability, and I couldn't find any disability experts in the field.
